Is it just me or do people not seem to be having Engagement Parties these days? If it’s a trend, then based on the awesomeness of this one, I think it ought to be reversed – it was one heck of a party, with muchos muchos fun had by everyone.
I was super-chuffed to be asked by Helen and Roger to photograph their special evening…they had a lot to celebrate having only recently announced not only their engagement, but also the impending arrival of ten-tiny-toes in August – yay!
They chose the Cocktail Lounge at Century Club in London for their party and what a hidden gem that is, right in the heart of Soho. Like many private members clubs in London you wouldn’t know it was there, but they have the most BEAUTIFUL rooftop terrace, perfect for an intimate city wedding, although with the delightful weather we’ve been having recently the retractable roof was firmly in place but it certainly didn’t dampen the atmosphere in the bar.
To respect members privacy we unfortunately weren’t allowed to take any pictures up there, but special thanks to the lovely staff for taking me on a guided tour – I do hope I get to shoot a London wedding up there one day!
Back in the cocktail lounge the bubbles were flowing almost as fast as the conversation, and guests were invited to share a special message for the couple on giant Jenga blocks which served as an alternative guest book – what a fabulous way to keep those sentiments alive. A little later, the tequila made a sneaky appearance (it has a habit of doing that) which accompanied by Roger’s hand-crafted playlist, fuelled a bit of an impromptu dance-off much to the delight (and horror) of the onlookers…I was only glad I had a big-fat camera in my hand otherwise I fear I may not have escaped quite so lightly!
What a great bunch of people they had in the room. If the engagement party was the appetiser, the wedding next year is sure to conjure up a veritable feast of fun and frolics.
