NVB – that’s me!

Hi, I’m Nadine van Biljon. My difficult to pronounce surname is courtesy of my lovely South African husband, so many people simply call me NVB.

We met working on a big boat when I was traveling around the world on my own, traumatizing my mother (that’s how she sees it) by undertaking various adrenaline-fuelled activities and experiencing some beautifully epic places.

One of those was New Zealand and that’s how it all began…

over & above

We now live a slightly less frantic life outside London, in leafy Surrey, near Richmond upon Thames, with our two amazingly pesky daughters who share our love for the sun, sea, sand and…safari!

While I’m perfectly happy camping in the wilderness with hair that’s seen better days, I’m also a bit of a magpie, attracted to sparkly, shiny things. If there’s a chandelier to be found at your wedding you’ll most likely find me loitering with intent, looking to create something special with it.You’ll spot a few in my work – I could be borderline obsessed – but they make for great photos so everyone’s happy!

My first career was a Sales Executive in the IT industry, managing clients which mostly required good people skills – just as well, given I’m no technologist!  I still love business (and people) but knew I had a more creative streak that needed an outlet.

Four years ago I embarked on a year-long Academy programme with The Trained Eye run by one of the UK’s top wedding photographers. Being mentored and shooting alongside him during that year gave me so much valuable experience which really kickstarted my career as a creative wedding photographer.

I pride myself on going over and above for my clients, striving to produce photography that overwhelms and inspires, but also entertains and moves.

You’ll have spotted there are a lot of us photographers out there and so I continue to invest in my education, regularly undertaking workshops with some of the World’s leading photographers and educators to be the best I can be.

I’m an ambassador of Nine Dots, a community dedicated to helping photographers to “create your own awesome” to best serve their wedding clients. Hanging out with, working with, and best of all being friends with some of the industry’s top talent inspires, motivates and challenges me to keep getting better with every event I shoot.

I’m honoured to have had my work featured in Brides and on blogs like Smashing the GlassLove My Dress, FlyAway Bride, and English Wedding and to have had my work recognised by International Photography Award bodies.

It’s great that people in the industry like my work, but far more important to me are the wonderful comments I get from my couples when they first see their images. Truthfully, that is the greatest compliment and the greatest reward, and it makes my heart sing…Every.Single.Time! Hopefully that gives you an inkling of what I’m about. I’d love to hear about you too so if you feel inclined, get in touch and share something a little personal about you, your day or your wonderful fiancé(e). Maybe we can arrange a call to learn more about each other and how we can make the most amazing pictures of your wedding.
